UN Calls for North Korea to Stop Nuclear and Missile Programs UN Official Warns About North Korea’s Nuclear and Missile Programs

On December 18, 2024, Rosemary DiCarlo, a top United Nations (UN) official, spoke to the UN Security Council about North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile activities.

She said that North Korea’s actions are breaking international rules and are a threat to global peace and security. The country is not following several UN Security Council resolutions that ban such programs.

Ms. DiCarlo asked North Korea to:

  • Stop all nuclear and missile activities completely and permanently.
  • Follow the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (an agreement to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons).
  • Sign and follow the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (an agreement to stop all nuclear testing).

She also mentioned concerns about military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. There are reports that North Korea might be sending troops or weapons to Russia. If true, this would violate UN sanctions (international penalties).

Ms. DiCarlo called on all UN member countries to follow the sanctions strictly and make sure no one helps North Korea’s military programs.

In the end, she said the world must stay united and use diplomacy and peaceful talks to stop North Korea’s dangerous activities.
